The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Roger Gifford, is leading a senior City business delegation to Tokyo next month (4-9 April) to deepen ties between Japan and the UK as the two nations celebrate the 400th anniversary of establishing relations. The Lord Mayor, who worked in Japan for the Swedish bank SEB between 1994-2000, will be looking to build common ground with Japanese politicians, policymakers and practitioners while also exploring opportunities for closer partnership between Tokyo and the City. Banking, asset management and insurance will be among the key sectors that the visit will focus on. As a member of the Japan 400 Advisory Council, he will also celebrate the strong friendship that has developed between the two countries in other areas including culture, education and science.
