TALK: Japanese Fiction in Translation: Michael Emmerich and Stephen Dodd in conversation

18 April 2013 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

The Japan Society is delighted to be hosting a discussion between two eminent figures in the world of Japanese translation and literature studies, Michael Emmerich and Stephen Dodd.  The evening will begin with a short presentation on Emmerich’s current book project, The Tale of Genji: Translation, Canonization, and World Literature, in which he re-examines the conventional narrative of this iconic work’s history, arguing that it became a classic outside of Japan before it was popularised domestically.

This talk is free, however booking is recommended.  To reserve your place, please call the Japan Society office on 020 7828 6330 or email events@japansociety.org.uk or submit the online booking form (http://www.japansociety.org.uk/booking-form/).

For more information, please see Japan Society’s Events page for this event.

This event is presented in association with the British Centre for Literary Translation
