For a rare few days in March 2013, you can sample classical Japanese Noh in London!
The workshop is a practically-focused comprehensive introduction to the oldest continually performed ensemble theatre in the world. We will focus on both music and movement, the building blocks of noh structure and performance. Using excerpts from classic noh plays, participants will develop their vocal and movement skills and begin to establish an understanding of the form through guided practice, demonstration, and screenings.
Noh Training Project UK is committed to providing accessible, comprehensive, and theatrically useful Noh theatre training in the UK. Our annual three-week summer Project hosted by Reading University is now in its third year, and remains the only workshop of its kind in Europe. The Project celebrates both classical Japanese noh tradition, and noh’s potential to become an important and timely influence in 21st century British (and international) theatre. By offering training in the UK, in English, we hope to encourage performers and students in the UK to engage with noh, and with Japan, in a way that is relevant and exciting now and in the future.
For anyone with a sense of musical, theatrical, or cultural adventure.
price of attendance: £100 (unwaged and student concessions available)
