Noh Theatre workshop by Richard Emmert in collaboration with Butoh research project by Florencia Guerberof
Master Richard Emmert (certified Kita school Noh instructor, Professor of Asian performing arts at Musashino University in Tokyo and Director of Noh Training Project, Tokyo), is invited to London to contribute to a Butoh Research Project by Florencia Guerberof.
This workshop will explore the following:
The relation between Butoh dance and Noh theatre through a comparative study.
The representation of live and dead characters through the Noh actor’s body.
The Japanese folk tales behind the Noh masks.
The power of the Noh actor’s voice and chant.
The workshop will count with traditional Japanese live music by Richard Emmert.
Asian Performing Arts UK pursues the study of Japanese theatre among other Asian cultures. It is our intention to connect past and present forms of performance. We intend to build a bridge between Japan and the West. In this way, we hope that Japanese and Western theatre forms will feed each other creatively.
