PERFORMING ARTS: Intensive Noh Workshops and Performance with Noh Teacher Akira Matsui

Noh Teacher  Akira Matsui, of the Noh Kita School, and Living National Asset, will visit from Japan to conduct workshops to learn Noh singing & dance, the kiri section of “Matsukaze”.   During the workshops, you will also receive an introduction to Noh instruments (nôkan flute, ôtsuzumi and kotsuzumi hand-drums, and the taiko stick drum).

There will be a series of four workshops.  Please note different Venues.

Workshop 1:  6 March 7-9pm  at  SOAS, Room B111 (Brunei Gallery)

Workshop 2:  7 March 10am-4pm at Daiwa Foundation Japan House, 13/14 Cornwall Terrace, London NW1 4QP  (nearest station  – Baker Street)

Workshop 3:  8 March 10am-4pm at  Daiwa Foundation Japan House, address as above

Performance: 8 March 6.30pm of Akira Matsui’s shimai, the kiri section of “Matsukaze”.  Moderator  – Dr David Hughes Performance Venue:  SOAS Main Building, Room G52, School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, London WC1H 0XG.  Admission: free (Booking not required)  All welcome

Workshop 4:  9 March 10am-4pm at   SOAS,  room L67  Main Building
