Marigold Cottage Garden will be open for the National Garden Scheme in association with Japan 400 on April 27 and April 28 2013.
Marigold Cottage Garden on the North Sea coast at Sutton on Sea, Lincolnshire is not a Japanese garden but an English seaside garden with Japanese and oriental influences as the gardeners lived and worked in Japan and Taiwan for many years. Entrance is via a Japan-inspired sliding gate and the garden has stone lanterns and torii gates as well as winding back paths, clumps of bamboo, a display reflecting the season, a stone water trough and a reflexology path. The vegetable garden grows Japanese shiso (perilla) and daikon (mouli) in season. For this open garden event only, English teas will be served using our collection of Mashiko mugs and plates and our other Japanese memorabilia will be on display.
Having lived and worked in Japan for 17 and 9 years respectively we have incorporated Japanese features into our garden and home. To celebrate this event we have invited Japanese friends from Kyoto and Tokyo to join us and a young artist friend is creating an art installation to celebrate Anglo Japanese relations.
