Kehai / Kiyo Hasegawa solo exhibition / Japanese style paintings – ‘Nihon-ga’

13 August 2013 - 19 August 2013

| Free

Kiyo Hasegawa is an emerging artist working in Japan and as such, this is an opportunity to introduce to London not only her work, but also a certain type of contemporary Japanese painting, which is not often encountered in Western art scene. The exhibition features ten of her recent paintings inspired by Japanese landscape and one video installation. It includes workshops in which people can engage with Japanese culture through ‘Nihon-ga’, a traditional Japanese way of painting, by using gold leaf and authentic Japanese brushes.

This exhibition is a good opportunity to introduce ‘Nihon-ga’ to London and this is related to Japan-British relations. I hope our exhibition leads to deeper understanding of Japanese culture showing Kiyo’s Japanese landscape paintings in London, transforming the gallery space into a fusion of two different places, cultures and memories…

Curated by Emmanouil Rammos, Hiromi Nishikawa and Yani Cao.

There are workshops experiencing gold and silver stamping on 15 and 17 of August from 2-4pm. Booking needed – please email to info.kehai@gmail.com

This exhibition is supported by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation. Curators are students at Chelsea College of Art and design(including Hiromi Nishikawa).
