Japan Suite is an exhibition and book of photographs by world-renowned British Magnum photographer Chris Steele-Perkins.
On show for the first time this collection is the culmination of over twenty years of personal documentary work in Japan. Seen through the eyes of an outsider, Steele-Perkins, whose wife is Japanese, shows us a country that is seemingly full of contradictions. On the one hand striving relentlessly to the future, embodying the essence of modernity and increasingly embracing outside influences, while on the other clinging to its unique cultural traditions and identity. In many ways an experience shared by Britain – another island nation.
In the spirit of 400 years of mutual cultural exploration, Japan Suite by Chris Steele-Perkins brings his unique 
photographic vision to the exploration of contemporary Japan. His work shows us: the familiar and the unexpected, the modern and the ancient, the sublime and the absurd the man made and the natural. Chris Steele-Perkins has developed an intimate personal relationship with Japan, both through the amount of time he has spent there, and due to his wife being Japanese.
