Links between South Eastern Regional College (SERC) and Toyama National College of Technology (TNCT) commenced in 2008. Both Colleges embarked upon an exchange of lecturers, students and joint research ideas, initially in the field of Engineering, under the leadership of the Joint Advisory Committee. While student exchanges have been a key element to the present links, there have also been a number of senior management and lecturer visits to both Colleges. The lecturers from SERC have also participated in an annual CAST Conference as organised by TNCT and students from SERC participated in the same conference via video-link for the first time this academic year.
To meet the targets identified by the Joint Advisory Committee, one of which is to “Develop a new third work stream with joint research opportunities, lectures and exchanges in renewable and eco- energy” the Committee, agreed in to host the 3rd ISESS in Northern Ireland to coincide with the G8 Summit, which will take place in Northern Ireland in mid June 2013. The 3rd ISESS conference will be a significant event in the calendar of SERC and will include representation from not only TNCT and Nagaoka University in Japan but also invitations will be extended to universities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
