This exhibition brought together beautiful art work of over thirty Japanese print artists, either living in Japan or the UK. All works are original works of art, meticulously printed by the artist themselves, and editions are strictly limited. Most of the artists are well- known and their works are in international collections and museums. Shinoda Toko, Hamanishi Katsunori, Daniel Kelly, Shiomi Nana, Nakayama Tadashi to name just a few. Others are young artists whom we have selected for their special talent. While styles vary from traditional Japanese scenes to the abstract, all have in common the originality and technical excellence based on the disciplines of Japanese print-making. We are especially pleased to bring to you the works of Shinoda Toko who has welcomed in her 100th birthday in March and to be the first in London to celebrate her New Century with you.

Hanga Ten, which means the Shop of Prints in Japanese, has been instrumental in introducing contemporary Japanese print artists to the UK for the last fifteen years. Printmaking in Japan has been embedded in its country’s history since the 8th century, but it was in the Edo period that woodcut prints came into their prime. It is therefore most appropriate to showcase the contemporary artists who have instilled their own techniques into this traditional art form, and Japan 400 is a most opportune time to celebrate their works. All works are for sale.
